I have for years been accustomed to using USB "flash drives" and USB-connected external HDDs for storage and/or "sneakernet" transportation of data files. Home WiFi network also includes similar vintage Dell laptop, Canon printer, Samsung smartphone, none of those involved here. Desktop computer: Dell XPS 8700, manufacture date, Intel gen 4 i7 CPU (4 cores, 8 threads 3.60 GHz), 16 GB RAM, "1 TB" HDD, NVIDIA graphics w/ 4 GB RAM, currently running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, Version 21H1, build 19043.1288 - original install was Windows 7 Pro, upgraded in place to Windows 10 and mostly kept fully updated since.
